Connections - Harry Potter

"The red-room was a spare chamber, very seldom slept in; I might say never, indeed, unless when a chance influx of visitors at Gateshead Hall rendered it necessary to turn to account all the accommodation it contained: yet it was one of the largest and stateliest chambers in the mansion." (12)

Harry might have had the smallest room in the Dursley home, Jane and Harry still have many similarities. Jane's room was her dead uncle's old office area, so none of the Reed's want to go into it. Harry was also given the unwanted room, the tiniest room under the stairwell. Jane felt a supernatural being in the red room, while Harry was getting wood pieces stomped onto his bed. The two of them were also put into these rooms against their own will. Jane was afraid of the supernatural activities in the red room, and Harry was just not fond of the small space he had under the stairwell. Their are also other simple comparisons, like they both have awful cousins, John and Dudley. They are also both resented by their family because their parents died so they had to be taken in instead of being left out to be an orphan. Both Harry and Jane have pretty tough "home" life.

  1. I like your use of the quote and the connection you made between Jane and Harry. I also liked that you made many comparisons instead of just one. The picture also added and extra touch that really made the page more appealing to the viewer. The contrast between the size of the rooms was also clever and beneficial. Overall I really liked your connection!

  2. I like how you compared the sizes of the rooms, plus the picture gave the readers a visual to see how small the room truly is. Your blog is appealing because it is well organized and you make several comparisons that are easy to follow. Overall, I really like your connections between Jane and Harry.

  3. I'd say this is definitely one of the big similarities between Harry and Jane. I didn't use this example in my own blog (my blog is about Harry Potter), but I definitely thought about using it. Finding all these similarities between Jane Eyre and Harry Potter makes me think a little less of JK Rowling because it makes me feel like she was not being very creative when she wrote the Harry Potter books. Even though the whole wizard world part is totally awesome and insanely creative. Still, I'm a little sad that it isn't a completely original story
