“I am no bird; and no net ensnares me: I am a free human being with an independent will.” (257)
This is also a powerful quote, but has a great use of imagery. With the bird reference you imagine a bird trapped in a cage, flapping its wings as hard as it can to escape. "Ensnare" emphasizes the trapped feeling from a cage or net. Not being able to move or fly in the birds case. And then Jane says "I am a free human being" showing her strength that she has gained throughout the novel, that she believes in herself more. This quote really shows the growth of Jane. She is not falling under the power of someone else, but is also settling her dispute in a mature manner. This quote is just one of my favorites from the book.
This was a great moment in the story. It made me very happy when Jane was finally able to be free from everything. Another thing that I am wondering, though is what is she being freed from? What exactly does she not have to listen to anymore? Awesome quote!
